Have you heard of the “Suber Pad”? I’ve read that the British Army uses them on their cavalry horses in Bosnia….and yes, they do have cavalry horses there right now. I think I would always want to use at least a wool cover on a pad. The Suber Pad seems to work well. The old wool cavalry blanket served the army well.

Thanks for your comment! I have not heard of this particular pad, but seen the website. Do you have any experience with it? The advantage of the cavalry saddle blanket is that it’s easy to wash, sustainable and has a very long life span.

I have no experience with the pad. I’ve read a few reviews on Google. All reviews expressed positive comments. I am trying to get a synopsis of the British Army field test. I’ve read that the British Army performed tests with electronic equipment to measure pressure points on the horse’s back when using the Suber Pad. I read that the tests showed a remarkable positive improvement…. If I secure a copy of the report, then I will be happy to post comments regarding its findings and methodology.

I would love to be able to find a military saddle blanket to try out on my horses….or perhaps something that comes close? What can I look for? Will an old 100% wool blanket work?
    Thank you,
    Susan

Hello Susan! Any normal sized 100% (or almost 100%) wool Army blanket will work. Try Army Navy stores. Good luck!
